How Many Animals Are Euthanized In Maricopa County Each Week

A highly contagious canine distemper outbreak at Maricopa Canton Animal Care and Control has acquired its west shelter in Phoenix to shut some of its buildings over the weekend.

On July 2, the shelter announced it had several confirmed cases of distemper — a highly contagious and mortiferous virus — within its westward facility. Equally of Thursday morning time, the shelter confirmed12 positive cases of the disease subsequently testing 100 dogs.

However, the price of the test isn't the only event the county shelter has seen. With the recent increase in intake numbers post-obit the Fourth of July weekend, most dogs are under strict quarantine orders.

Considering of this, the county shelter has requested an increased demand for enrichment items.

"They need sturdy toys, chew toys, bang-up sticks," Laux said. "These enrichment toys and long-chew treats continue them busy then they aren't quite so bored in their kennels."
